So I just finished Edmond J. Cubbage's book, Just a Kid from Swampoodle to Vietnam, and I have to say it was very fascinating. It was a quick read of a collection of first hand stories written by the person who was there. I throughly enjoyed reading about the memories as if I was in the room with Mr. Cubbage listening to him tell the stories himself. From boot camp, to volunteering for jump school for an additional $55 a month, to his longest day where he threatened another soldier to let him and his buddy Carson into their bunker while they were in the heat of battle. The stories gave an enlightened view of a war that many don't understand or care to understand. Thank you Mr. Cubbage for writing this and thank you for your service.
If you love listening to your dad and his friends telling their tales of Vietnam this is a book for you. In this book Mr Cubbage shares his experiences of his time in the service. While most are pretty funny, it’s far from glamorous. I think each story should be read with a beer in your hand imagining yourself listening to the guys in the bar. From the prospective of a Philly kid. Well done.
A very good book, I enjoyed this book from start to finish. The book had humor ,but also the sadness, that was always part of the Vietnam War. I highly recommended it, for it's honest account of what life was like, for a soldier in Vietnam. I read it in one sitting, enjoyed it to much to stop. Michael J. Walsh
I really enjoyed Mr. Cubbage's insight on his experience in Vietnam. I thought it was a brutally honest view
of a typical young city kid's perspective of his experience during his time in Vietnam. I especially liked his tribute to all his fellow soldiers who fought with him there.
I received my copy the other Day and I started to read it and I couldn`t put it down, it is very well written and You could put your imagination to work and you could envision what Ed was writing about. I would highly recommend this Book!!
Read it in 2 days with about 10 hours of actual reading. It just makes you want to find out what happens next. I hope the author didn't pay his editor much cause on one page he misspelled his CO'S name 3 times. Its amazing to me (being a USMC Vietnam era veteran) the amount of disrespect they army put up with from the author and his fellow soldiers. But that was a sign of the times. Absolutely worth the read.

Father’s Day present for husband. He very much enjoyed this memoir as he too is a VietNam veteran.
Well Done and colorful recollections that took a young man from sanity to insanity! WAR!!
I have searched for years to find someone who was in Vietnam with my husband. My husband died over there but Edmond knew him and spoke of him in the book. The book is well written. I hope to speak with Edmond sometime in the near future! I was married to Richard Recupero.
